UTV Off-Roading Essentials: Building Your Emergency Kit

ATV

At FlatOut™, we’re all about being prepared. With Spring starting up and trail season right around the corner, it’s a good time to make sure you have everything you need for off-roading. Creating a comprehensive UTV off-roading emergency kit will ensure you’re prepared for anything.

First Aid Supplies

While we hope this isn’t needed, it’s always good to have these items on hand:

  • Antiseptic wipes
  • Gauze and bandages
  • Tweezers and scissors
  • Adhesive tape
  • Pain relievers and any prescription medications you or your passengers take

While we hope this isn’t needed, it’s always good to have these items on hand:

If you already have a first aid kit created, now is a good time to go through it and check to see if any needs to be restocked or replaced. Don’t forget to check expiration dates!

Communication Devices & Navigation Equipment

Depending on where you’re headed, you might have limited cell service. If you are going into a remote area, make sure someone knows where you are headed and consider purchasing a satellite phone or a two-way radio.

Before heading out on the trail, it’s smart to study a map of the area to get familiar with the layout. Pack maps or GPS systems to help you stay on course and find your way to civilization if you get lost.

Water & Food

The only thing worse than being lost is being lost and hungry. Pack extra meals and snacks that are nonperishable and easily stored. The amount of extra food will depend on how many people are planning to embark on the journey with you. Don’t forget to bring extra water. If you are going somewhere particularly remote, bringing a portable water filtration system would ensure you have plenty of fresh water in case an emergency does occur.

UTV Repair Tools

You never know what can happen to your UTV out on the trail. Here’s a list of items to keep on hand while out on the trail:

  • Tow straps
  • Knife and screwdriver multi-tool
  • Sockets and adjustable wrench
