EBike Maintenance Tips

EBike rider

Whether you’re a seasoned rider or new to the eBike game, keeping your eBike in top condition will be high on your priority list. Ebikes can be expensive and after putting the money down for your equipment, you’ll want to make sure to keep your eBike running smoothly. From cleaning and lubricating your eBike’s components to understanding battery care, these tips will help keep your eBike properly maintained and prevent breakdowns.

Cleaning – Keeping your eBike clean can go a long way in making sure grime and dirt doesn’t build up and cause damage. You can use mild soap and water to remove dirt from your eBike. Pay special attention to areas prone to build up like the chain and brakes.

Storage – When you’re not hitting the trails, it’s important to properly store your eBike to prevent damage. EBikes should be stored in a dry location away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, or moisture. Investing in a bike rack or stand will go a long way to prevent damage to the frame. If you are storing your eBike for an extended amount of time, it’s a good idea to remove the battery to protect the health.

Battery Health – To maintain your battery’s performance and longevity, follow your manufacturer’s guidelines for charging. Overcharging or repeatedly letting the battery drain completely can cause damage. Many eBikes have a built-in battery management system that lets you monitor your battery’s health and provides more information.

Lubricant – Applying lubricant to the chain and other moving parts reduces friction and extends your eBike’s lifespan. After applying the lubricant, wipe off any excess with a microfiber towel to avoid dirt and debris build up.

Tires – Before each ride, check your tires and rims for any damage and check your tire pressure regularly. Using FlatOut™ QuickStrike™ Off-Road formula or FlatOut™ QuickStrike™ Small Tire formula (depending on your tire size) will prevent punctures up to ½’’ and seal slow leaks.

Which formula to use for your eBike?

If your eBike has a tread width of less than that 3.5’’ wide, use FlatOut™ QuickStrike™ Small Tire formula. For fat tire eBikes or eBikes with tires that are 3.5’’ or wider, use FlatOut™ QuickStrike™ Off-Road formula.
